Certified Allied Addiction Practitioner

CAAP is a title for the auxiliary addiction treatment professional involved in providing direct auxiliary services within the addiction field.

 

CAAP REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Two years (4,000 hours) out of the last 7 years of paid, supervised employment as an auxiliary alcohol and other drug abuse worker where 30% of the time is spent providing alcohol and other drug abuse services.

Present employment as an auxiliary worker at time of application.

High School Diploma or GED.

50 hours of alcohol and other drug abuse education including 6 in professional ethics and responsibilities.

50 hours of supervision obtained during employment.

Sign and abide by Code of Ethical Conduct.

Must live or work in PA at time of application.

Pass a written exam.

Submission of application, all documentation, and fee.

CAAP is a 2 year credential and must be recertified.

 

CAAP Standards – Revised June 2011 – Effective January 1, 2012

 Employment

  • Two years (4000 hours) of employment providing direct alcohol and other drug abuse auxiliary services to the client/population. Employment must have been gained within the last 7 years.  Applicant must spend at least 30% of his/her time providing services to the client/population.  Individuals providing primary alcohol and other drug abuse counseling, prevention, or clinical supervision are not eligible for the CAAP.  Eligible candidates are likely to be working in positions such as intake, assessment, detox, arts/activities/life skills, managers/administrators, and LPN/RN. 
  • Applicant must be currently employed in an alcohol and other drug abuse auxiliary position at the time application is submitted to PCB.
  • If current employment is in an unlicensed facility, an agency brochure and philosophy statement as it relates to alcohol and other drug abuse must be included.

 

Supervision 

  • 100 hours of on-the-job supervision of which 50 must be in the CAAP domains.

Education
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. 
  • 50 hours of alcohol and other drug abuse education including 6 in professional ethics.
  • Education is defined as formal, structured instruction in the form of workshops, seminars, institutes, in-services, college/university credit courses and PCB approved distance education.
  • Education, as defined above, provided by applicant to others may also be used.

 

Examination
 

  • Pass the Written Examination for Certified Allied Addiction Practitioners.

Other

  • Signed and dated Code of Ethical Conduct
  • Signed, dated and notarized Release.
  • Current job description dated and signed by supervisor and applicant.
  • Applicant must live or work in PA at time of application.
