Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor

This classification is viewed as the title for the alcohol and drug counselor primarily involved in providing direct alcohol and drug treatment services. This is an international credential that is recognized throughout the world via reciprocity.

CADC REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Two years (4,000 hours) out of the last 7 years of paid, supervised employment as an alcohol and drug counselor or supervisor where 51% of the time is spent providing said counseling with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a human service related field. Three years (6,000 hours) of employment is required if the degree is non-human service related.

Present employment as an alcohol and drug counselor or supervisor at time of application.

Bachelor’s degree or higher.

300 hours of education relevant to the field of addiction of which 100 must be alcohol and other drug abuse specific including 6 in professional ethics and responsibilities and 6 in communicable diseases.

300 hours of supervision obtained during employment.

Sign and abide by Code of Ethical Conduct.

Must live or work in PA at time of application.

Pass a written exam.

Submission of application, all documentation, and fee.

CADC is a 2 year credential and must be recertified.
