Certified Case Manager

CASE MANAGEMENT is a collaborative process between the client and the case manager that facilitates the access to available resources and retention in treatment and support services, while simultaneously educating the client in the skills necessary to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency and recovery from substance abuse disorders.

 

Certified Case Manager Supervisor

Eligible candidates must be providing supervision to case managers.

 

CCSM/CCMS REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Two years (4,000 hours) out of the last 7 years of paid, supervised employment as a case manager or supervisor where 51 % of the time is spent providing case management services.

Present employment as a case manager or supervisor at time of application.

Bachelor’s degree or higher.

200 hours of education relevant to the field of addiction of which 100 must be drug and alcohol specific including 6 in cultural competency, 6 in professional ethics and responsibilities, and 6 in communicable diseases.

200 hours of supervision obtained during employment.

Sign and abide by Code of Ethical Conduct.

Must live or work in PA at time of application.

Pass a written exam.

Submission of application, all documentation, and fee.

CCSM and CCMS are 2 year credentials and must be recertified.

Definitions

Case Management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, advocacy, and care coordination of services and supports to meet an individual’s and family’s comprehensive needs.  These needs are met through guidance, support, and linkage to resources which empower the client to establish a recovery-oriented, self-sufficient, and healthy lifestyle.

 

Employment

Two years (4000 hours) of employment providing alcohol and other drug abuse case management or supervision of same.  Employment must have been gained within the last 7 years.  Applicant must spend at least 51% of his/her time providing case management services.

Applicant must be currently employed in a case manager position at the time application is submitted to PCB.  If current employment is in an unlicensed facility, an agency brochure and philosophy statement as it relates to alcohol and other drug abuse must be included.

 

Supervision

200 hours of on-the-job supervision within the 5 case manager domains (engagement, evaluation, coordination of resources, referral/placement, professional responsibility). Supervision is a formal or informal process that is administrative, evaluative, clinical, and supportive.  It can be provided by more than one person, it ensures quality of clinical care, and extends over time.  Supervision includes observation, mentoring, coaching, evaluating, inspiring, and creating an atmosphere that promotes self-motivation, learning, and professional development.  In all aspects of the supervision process, ethical and diversity issues must be in the forefront.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university that is recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.  Degree must either be in a human service related field or must include 18 human service related credits if degree is in a non-human service related field.  An official transcript sent directly from college/university is required.

200 hours of education relevant to the field of addiction of which 100 are alcohol and other drug abuse specific including:

6 hours of professional ethics and responsibilities

6 hours of communicable diseaseso:p>

6 hours of case management

6 hours of pharmacology

6 hours of Motivational Interviewing

66 hours of Stages of Change

The 100 hours of alcohol and other drug abuse specific training must have been obtained within 5 years of applying for the credential.

Education is defined as formal, structured instruction in the form of workshops, seminars, institutes, in-services, college/university credit courses and PCB approved distance education.

Education in CPR/First Aid and computer learning will be accepted for a maximum of 6 hours each.

Three college credits are equivalent to 45 hours.

Education, as defined above, provided by applicant to others may also be used.
