Mary Jo Mather - 25 Years of Service
by Chris Sweeney, CAC Diplomate, LPC, MHS

At this year’s Pennsylvania Certification Board’s Annual Retreat   and meeting, Mary Jo Mather received an award for 25 years of   service.

Mary Jo has not only been pivotal to the success of IC&RC, her   contributions, tireless work, and dedication simply stated--cannot be measured with words!  Mary Jo’s heart is woven with a sturdy thread of humble service and her spirit is cloaked with endless passion to help others.” said Rhonda Messamore, President of the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC).

IC&RC is a not-for-profit voluntary membership organization comprised of certifying agencies involved in credentialing or licensing alcohol and drug counselors, clinical supervisors, prevention specialists, co-occurring disorders professionals and criminal justice professionals. “We are most honored to have her on our team!  On behalf of IC&RC, congratulations Mary Jo on 25 years of service with PCB!

Pennsylvania is filled with the professionals that PCB has certified.

Though many tend to have negative associations toward people with alcohol and other drug use disorders, Mary Jo has fought against this stigma and discrimination, having established herself as an advocate for those suffering and for quality care.

Mary Jo is drawn to complicated projects that require careful planning and often takes on projects others think to be impossible, such as the development of the now international co-occurring credential, the criminal justice addictions professional credential, and the recovery specialist credential.

Much of her ability to get these projects up and running is becau
se of her drive, and unassuming style, which is appealing to those with whom she works.  She also likes to work on projects that help continue to develop and preserve the credentialing process.

Over the years, she has been on dozens of boards and commi
ttees, mostly revolving around certification issues. She is also Executive Director of IC&RC.

When issues involving certification arise, Mary Jo eagerly responds to the queries of international boards and states that have need.

She is a native Pennsylvanian and she and her family live in the Harrisburg area.

Please join the PCB in congratulating Mary Jo on her 25 years of service.
