Loan Forgiveness
For some time now, PCB has written about proposed legislation on loan forgiveness. The latest loan forgiveness legislation is House Bill 282 which “provides for Commonwealth support for a Mental Health and Mental Retardation Staff Member Loan Forgiveness Program and an alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor Loan Forgiveness Program for Commonwealth residents who graduate from institutions of higher education and who apply their degrees to careers as mental health and mental retardation staff members in this Commonwealth.”
This legislation was referred to the Senate Education Committee in April of 2007 and has seen no movement since.
