THE SPIRITUALITY OF RECOVERY

True recovery is about strengthening the mind/body/spirit connection. Strengthening this connection is demonstrated by having an awareness of the awesome potential within us. Deepening spirituality awakens us to our divine essence. It helps us see the connection to source as strength. Connecting recovery folks to their spirituality helps them surrender fear, guilt and other barriers that may hold them back. This workshop will discuss the barriers that limit and separate the addict from their source. It will also offer methods for connecting to our greatest potential so that all can live their best lives physically, spiritually and mentally.

HEALING SHOCK IN THE TREATMENT OF SEXUAL ABUSE: HELP FOR COUNSELOR, CLIENT, FAMILIES & COMMUNITY

The DSM notes that victims of sexual assault and child molestation qualify as events that can result in PTSD. It also states that hearing accounts of violence to close associates can result in PTSD. The autonomic nervous system (ANS) can play a crucial healing role as abuse experiences are brought to the therapy relationship. The sympathetic and the para-sympathetic branches of the ANS and how they relate to trauma work will be reviewed. Participants will learn to track the symptoms of hyper-arousal and hypo-arousal in the ANS that prevent the client from engaging healthy influences. Social and family traditions that encourage and perpetuate shock in victims and perpetrators as well as in the population at large will be contemplated.
