Dissecting DBT and Trauma Informed Care: Are They as Great as They Sound?

Has Psychology really helped folks get better with more training in more models with more monitoring? Or have we simply begun to repackage and retool what really works which is just good ole fashioned therapy and just put it in a new shiny box with a “sexy” title? This training will focus on dissecting DBT, Trauma Informed Care and other “hot” therapeutic models many of us have been trained in. We will look at how these therapies became “evidenced based” and examine the culture of therapy today with the over use of manualized treatment models.

Objectives:

  • Breakdown and identify the core concepts of DBT – how does it differ from CBT?
  • Explore what  “Trauma Informed Care” really means
  • Discuss evidence-based treatments and how they came to be evidence based
