Treating Criminally Implicated Clients in a Therapeutic Setting (TRAINING LOCATION: DDAP Offices: One Penn Center; 2601 N 3rd St., Harrisburg, PA)

It is often assumed that clients who have been criminally involved in the judicial system, and/or exhibit characteristics congruent with antisocial personality traits present various challenges in the therapeutic setting. The primary goals of this training are to increase awareness and understanding of the traits and issues of the antisocial/criminal personality and to increase clinical proficiency in delivering efficient and effective treatment strategies to address the needs of this population. Among the specific objectives that will be addressed are: Identify and differentially diagnose antisocial personality, psychopathy, and sociopathy; identify problematic behaviors and interaction styles of those pathologies; identify treatment modalities that are effective in treating these pathologies; and learn to manage pathologies in various levels of care.
