Friends Hospital is in search of a masters level drug and alcohol counselor to work in our 192-bed inpatient facility, providing evaluations, counseling, family education, team consultation, and support for discharge planning for individuals living with a mental illness who are also misusing drugs and/or alcohol. The position will involve working with multiple interdisciplinary treatment teams to provide excellent clinical services, as well as administrative tasks including staff training and program development. Experience with an inpatient hospital setting is required, as well as a strong background in dual-diagnosis counseling. Friends Hospital is a fast-paced environment dedicated to evidence based, recovery driven behavioral healthcare, and successful applicants should have strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently, and high levels of organization and flexibility. This staff member will be part of a weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

Provide consultation to interdisciplinary treatment teams and assist with treatment planning.
Provide brief evaluations of substance using patients.
Conduct individual and group psychotherapy.
Connect with patient collaterals for education and care planning.
Assist with placement and aftercare planning.
Assist in advocating on behalf of patients to third party payers.
Conduct staff trainings focused on the treatment of dually-diagnosed patients.
Assist with program development to ensure recovery-oriented and evidence-based treatment.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in psychology, social work counseling, or a related behavioral health field. Certification in PA as a CAADC or CCDPD. Mental health licensure is preferred but not required. Minimum 3 years inpatient and dual-diagnosis experience. Familiarity with evidence-based interventions and theoretical models including CBT, 12-step, harm reduction, and stages of change.
