This individual is capable, under direct supervision, of performing work in the therapeutic care, treatment and rehabilitation of persons within the program. The Recovery Specialist conducts therapeutic activities with the clients under the supervision of a Program/Clinical Supervisor, or Program Director. The Recovery Specialist must have a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system and the recovery community. The Recovery Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. This position does not require, and is restricted from performing group counseling, individual counseling, treatment planning, but does act as a liaison between the clinical staff and the clients. Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures, but employees are expected to exercise significant initiative and independent judgment in discharging duties. Work is reviewed by the Program/Clinical Supervisor or Program Director through an evaluation of the timely and accurate completion of assignments.

Responsibilities

Transport and act as escort for those clients who have medical appointments, or other business outside the facility (as approved by staff).; Be aware of clients and client activities during shift; Assist clients to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery; Assist clients in developing long-term recovery plans in conjunction with the clinical team; Communicate to counseling staff in person and/or by log any client related incidents or conversations that could have a therapeutic impact; Deny unauthorized persons access to the facility and ensure a drug free environment while maintaining client confidentiality; Be willing to listen to clients in a non-judgmental manner providing recovery support, and direct them to clinical staff when appropriate; Assist in the facilitation of morning meetings, exercise, and other program functions when requested and supervised by counseling staff; Attend all program activities and act as a role model for the clients by demonstrating a positive attitude and behavior, and a drug free lifestyle; Check building security and ensure there are no fire or safety hazards in accordance with program and regulatory policies; Supervise clients in work therapy activities and report progress to counseling staff.

Qualifications

Education and Training: High School Diploma or GED, and CRS Certification.
Sobriety: If recovering, minimum one (1) year continuous sobriety.
