Position: Peer Support Counselor
Location: Philadelphia Pioneer Corps, 1920 East Allegheny Street
Availability of Position: Immediate
Schedule: Full-Time; 30 hours per week, 7.5/day Tues through Friday, some flexibility to meet program needs
Reporting Relationship: Pioneer Corps Officers
Salary Grade: $ 13.75 per hour 73 Non-Exempt

Description of Position:

The Peer Support Counselor (PSC) is charged with pursuing the goals of The Salvation Army’s Opioid Prevention and Treatment Program to prevent opioid overdose deaths. This program, funded by the Independence Blue Cross Foundation for one year, is housed at the Pioneer Corps. The PSC will focus on the goals of prevention through the provision of intensive case management services to participants and their families, and treatment by assisting participants to access detoxification and treatment programs. The PSC is responsible for recruitment of participants, goal planning, service/treatment linkage, monitoring and follow-up. The PSC will facilitate SELF groups for participants and their families with the goal of developing community champions to sustain support groups in the Kensington community.

Qualifications

Requirements:
· Must have current CPS certification
· Must have high school diploma or GED
· Must possess two years of peer counseling experience
· Understanding of trauma-informed practice a must
· As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every three years thereafter.
· Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History
Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
· Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
