Responsibilities

The position of Recovery Support Specialist will be involved in advocating for the needs of our patients, assisting the patient to navigate the treatment system, and serving as a mentor for the patient in achieving sobriety. The Recovery Support Specialist will have experience in behavioral health services and be willing to use and share his/her personal and practical experience to the individuals served, family members, and other key individuals involved in care team. Services and support will be delivered to substance use patients in the context of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing (with a clinical specialty in human services), or other related field; however, suitable individuals enrolled in studies pursuing a degree with two or more years of experience in the substance use field will be considered.
• Thorough knowledge of the Guiding Principles of Recovery.
• Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) preferred
• Recovery: minimum of two (2) years uninterrupted participation in program. Recovering individuals must be actively involved with a recovery program.
• Knowledge of MAT and ability to perform duties in the context of MAT.
• Knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Office Applications, others)
• Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation as it relates to correspondence necessary to perform essential job functions
• Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures, and make changes accurately
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to establish rapport with multi-cultural participants.
• Ability to effectively and appropriately share personal stories and experiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Skill in operating office equipment
• Ability to exercise individual judgement and discretion in matters of significance
• Ability to work a varied schedule including evenings, weekends, and additional hours if required by the department
• Ability to work in, and respond to demanding environment
• Ability to communicate well and in a caring and supportive manner with individuals of all backgrounds.
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately with strong attention to detail
• Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
• Ability to be organized, proactive in follow-up and follow-through, and to juggle multiple competing tasks
