The Certified Peer Specialist assures that all operational procedures and regulations are followed.

The Certified Peer Specialist is responsible for collaborating with consumers, team members, family members, significant others and collateral resources to promote socialization experiences, create rehabilitative skills training opportunities, maximizing empowerment experiences and to structure and support social and recreational activities and to promote recovery through the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP). The Certified Peer Specialist will be an additional support relationship for the consumer, will assist the consumer to maintain stability in the community and promote opportunities for recovery focused interactions and activities. The Certified Peer Specialist will assist team members and other providers with an understanding of the Recovery Model and the day-to-day practice of this modality. It is expected that 50% of the Certified Peer Specialist’s time will be spent in actual contact with the consumer or others on his or her behalf. Paperwork requirements and team meetings should not require more than 50% of the worker’s time.

Education/Training: a high school diploma or GED is required. Experience with the public mental health system is preferred. The Certified Peer Specialist must be certified to provide peer support services in the State of Pennsylvania and must be eligible to bill Medicaid. The Certified Peer Specialist must have knowledge of community resources, experience in consumer advocacy, and the capability of participation in the team format. Certified Peer Specialist must also have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
