Certified Family Recovery Specialist

Organization:
The PROGRAM for Offenders
Location:
Pittsburgh, PA

THE PROGRAM for Offenders, Inc. a non-profit organization in Pittsburgh, PA, provides alternative housing, reentry services, and PA licensed drug and alcohol treatment at its residential facilities and in the community. THE PROGRAM has provided supportive services to give offenders a second chance at a crime and addiction-free life, and to give their children a first chance, since 1976. Because everyone deserves a chance, whether or not they are justice-involved, we provide our drug and alcohol treatment services to any eligible adult from the community referred to our facilities, including self-referrals.

We are looking for a full-time Certified Family Recovery Specialist (CFRS) to provide a range of non-clinical peer-to-peer supports to adults who have been directly impacted by a family member’s Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). This position is part of an exciting new pilot program that will provide peer support to eligible families across Allegheny County. It offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including health, dental, life insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan contributions.

Ideally, family members are an important source of practical and emotional support for each other. But OUD distorts family dynamics, erodes trust and weakens communication. Family members can be hard pressed to support their loved one’s recovery when they are also struggling to manage its impact on them. The CFRS helps family members understand and deal with their experience of their loved one’s recovery from OUD. The CFRS shares the unique perspective family members have on their loved one’s disease in a way that helps them develop coping skills and strategies—and supports the well-being of family members so they, in turn, can better support the long-term commitment and tenacity their loved one needs in order to recover from OUD.
