Responsibilities

Provide peer support to individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
* Use personal lived experience to provide hope, encouragement, and recovery support.
* Build trusting, respectful, and supportive relationships with individuals served.
* Help individuals identify personal goals and develop recovery/wellness plans.
* Connect individuals with community resources, housing, employment, education, and healthcare services.
* Accompany or support individuals during appointments and community activities when appropriate.
* Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and informed decision-making.
* Assist individuals in developing coping skills and wellness strategies.
* Facilitate or participate in peer support groups and recovery-focused activities.
* Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and interactions.
* Protect client confidentiality and follow HIPAA and agency policies.
* Communicate with treatment teams and other providers while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
* Advocate for individuals’ needs, rights, and access to services.
* Recognize changes in an individual’s needs and report concerns to the appropriate staff.
* Maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate reliability, empathy, and cultural respect.

Qualifications

* Current Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) certification or state-recognized peer support certification
* Personal lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery
* Completion of an approved CPS training program
* Understanding of recovery-oriented and person-centered support
* Strong communication and active-listening skills
* Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships
* Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
* Knowledge of community resources and support services
* Ability to advocate for individuals and encourage self-advocacy
* Ability to assist individuals with setting and achieving personal goals
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Strong documentation and organizational skills
* Dependability, empathy, patience, and professionalism
* Willingness to follow HIPAA, agency policies, and ethical standards
* Ability to maintain continuing education and certification requirements when required
