Your step-by-step guide to PA Certification Board credentials
1
Review Your Credential Requirements
First, determine:
- Is training required first? Some credentials (like Certified Peer Specialist and Certified Recovery Specialist) require completion of a mandated training before you can apply.
- What are the other requirements? Review all requirements outlined in the application for your specific credential.
2
Complete Your Application
Application submission options:
- Online (Recommended - fastest)
- Fax or scan (Quick processing)
- Postal mail (Can take up to 2 weeks to arrive)
Important: Use a Personal Email
Always use a personal email address as your primary contact. PCB communicates via email, and personal addresses are more stable than work emails that may change.
3
Submit Payment
Payment must be received before processing begins.
Payment Recommendations
- Credit card (online) - Most secure and time-effective
- Check/money order - Risk of delay or loss in mail
Important notes:
- Payment is required at the time of application
- If your employer or another party is paying, PCB must wait until payment is received
- Office of Vocational Rehabilitation payments have multiple steps - initial request does NOT count as payment
4
Application Processing
Once payment is received:
No Exam Required: Your credential will be provided directly.
Credentials without exams:
Community Health Workers Certified Perinatal Doulas Certified Family Recovery Specialists Certified Recovery Specialist Supervisor Associate Addiction Counselor
Exam Required: Your application will be sent to the Exam Manager. You cannot proceed until you receive an email from the Exam Manager.
You Are NOT Automatically Registered
There are several steps in the exam process. Wait for instructions from the Exam Manager.
5
The Exam Process
All emails sent to your primary email address:
Email 1 - Initial Registration: You must respond indicating whether you want to take the exam online or in person. No response = no scheduled test.
Email 2 - Exam Link: You'll receive a link to your examination.
Email 3 - Testing Instructions: Read carefully! Following instructions ensures smooth testing and prevents invalidation due to errors.
6
