LVACT Substance Abuse Specialist holds a vital clinical role on a diverse team providing Assertive Community Treatment to the Lehigh Valley. Using an evidence based model that positively supports and empowers individuals with serious and persistent mental illness with a uniquely comprehensive, community based approach, the Clinician directly participates and provides leadership to individual treatment teams focused on individual recovery outcomes. This is an hourly position with competitive wage, & on-call stipends, also offers a $3,000 sign-on bonus ($1,500 after 90 days, $1.500 after 6 months).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Substance Abuse Specialist  include; assessment of individuals referred for therapy and the provision of clinical direction for services planning and treatment goals, conducting individual therapy, utilizing member in vivo experiences to maximize learning and use of skills and developed insights, participation in team and individual case management activities, facilitation of treatment team meetings, discharge planning, participation in Performance Improvement and Clinical Issues activities, and the collection of outcomes measurement data. 

$3000 sign-on bonus! ($1,500 after 90 days, $1,500 after 6 months)

1.Collaborate with LVACT members, formulate a strengths based assessment of physical, emotional, spiritual and social status.
2. Participate in clinical supervision and assume an active role in identifying areas where additional training and/or support is needed.
3. Provide training, direction for services/recovery planning and activities designed to expand member competencies. When designated as the primary team member on the member’s ITT, the clinician will conduct reviews of service/treatment plan, assuming the role of convener for individualized treatment team meetings.
4. Use advanced clinical skills, competence and best practice knowledge in collaborating with team leaders and team members in interventions designed to engage LVACT members in a trusting and supportive relationship, providing emotional support within professional boundaries.
5. Assist the Director, LVACT, in planning and/or conducting conferences and specialized trainings for members of the team and other, appropriate agency personnel. 
6. Promote quality and continuity of service delivery

Qualifications

 1. Two years experience working, preferably in a community based setting, with adults experiencing severe & persistent mental health disorders, and with individuals with co-occurring disorders related to substance abuse. 
2. Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or counseling with CADC certification, Master's degree and CADC certification preferred
3. The ability and experience to make independent decisions.
4. Strong written and verbal skills.
5. Must have a valid driver’s license.
 6. Substance Abuse Specialist is understanding of and interested in working with persons with severe mental illness in the community and home environment.

The Substance Abuse Specialist has professional energy and competence in mental health, as well as a desire to expand their knowledge base. The Substance Abuse Specialist is flexible and able to respond appropriately and effectively in a crisis situation, providing leadership in crisis resolution activities.

The position requires the individual to be assertive and able to communicate well with other team members, service recipients and the various persons and organizations with which the team has contact in the community.  The Substance Abuse Specialist  is organized, goal oriented, and be able to follow through with numerous and varied responsibilities.
