Position Description:
CMSU is a county-funded recovery oriented agency that has opportunities for a Certified Peer Specialist to share in its vision “To create an environment where hope leads to recovery and recovery leads to hope.”
Certified Peer Specialists (CPS) play an important role in fulfilling CMSU’s mission “To participate actively in a community-wide partnership to support residents of Columbia, Montour, Snyder, and Union Counties in achieving independence and personal development in order to enhance their quality of life.”
CMSU has a full-time job opportunity for a Certified Peer Specialist to work in its Peer-to-Peer program in central Pennsylvania.

The CPS will assist individuals with developing their self-directed recovery plans, including but not limited to, WRAP, Personal Medicine, and other recovery-oriented resources.
The CPS will demonstrate an understanding of the recovery model and serve as a role model for people with mental health challenges or serious mental illness to assist them in their recovery.
Achieve a passing score as a county social services Aide 1 (CMSU can assist with this process)
Certification by an OMHSAS approved training vendor as a Certified Peer Specialist (Current PCB credential preferred)
A selected candidate in need of CPS Certification must have a High School diploma or GED and meet other eligibility requirements prior to CPS Certification training. A self-identified mental health consumer age 18 or older who has received or is receiving mental health services as defined in OMHSAS MH Bulletin 16-12: Serious Mental Illness or Serious Emotional Disturbance.
In addition, within the last three years, have either maintained at least 12 months of successful paid work or volunteer experience, or earned at least 24 credit hours at a college or post-secondary educational institution.
Completion of PA Certification Board test with passing score after CPS training. Must obtain PCB certification within 6 months of date of hire and maintain PCB certification for duration of employment as a CPS at CMSU.
Valid driver’s license or willing to obtain a driver’s license.
FBI fingerprint, PA State Police record check, and Child Line clearances prior to date of hire
A reliable method of transportation to and from the work place as scheduled is essential a agency vehicle is provided for direct services with peers.
Ability to establish a trusting relationship with peers.
Basic computer skills or ability to learn how to complete electronic documentation
CPS will work in conjunction with other community service providers to assist people to build social and personal skills that will enhance their recovery.
Additional training:
WRAP 1 is a plus. CMSU can assist with WRAP 1 training if it was not included in your initial CPS training
CPS Crisis skills training is a plus
