FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR THE 2026 UPDATES

Lapsed Status: Before January 1, 2026

Q:  What happens if my credential expires before January 1, 2026?

A: If your credential went into a lapsed status prior to January 1, 2026, we strongly encourage you to recertify as soon as possible. Once January 1, 2026 comes, you will have six (6) months from that date to obtain your recertification.

Lapsed Status: On and after January 1, 2026:

Q:  If my credential expires on January 1, 2026 or after and I do not recertify in time, does my credential become expired?

A:  Yes. In the PCB database, to include the credential verification page, your credential will show as expired.

Q: Once my credential expires, can I still use the recertification process, and if so, for how long?

A:  Yes, you may use the recertification process/application for six (6) months from your expiration date.

Q:  What happens if my credential is expired for more than six (6) months after my expiration date?

A:    You will have to contact the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) and request a re-application form so that you can reapply for the credential(s).

Q: There is currently a fee when a credential goes into lapsed status, since the lapsed status is being removed, will there still be an additional fee?

A:    Yes. Once a credential becomes expired, if the person recertifies within the first six (6) months, there is a $75.00 fee in addition to the recertification fee.

Q:  Is there a fee when my credential is expired, after the first (6) months and then I have to re-apply?

A:  There is no additional fee however, when a person is required to re-apply for a credential the cost has always been and will continue to be the same cost of the initial certification. (For example: to obtain your initial credential as a CPS, you pay a fee of $150.00, so the fee is the same if you ever have to re-apply.)(Example 2: to obtain your initial CAADC credential, you pay a fee of $375.00, so the fee is the same if you have to re-apply).  This rule is the same for all credentials.

Re-application Process

Q:   Are there any changes to the re-application process?

A:  It will still be required for you to contact PCB and request a reapplication, and the fees will remain the same. In addition, you will be required to complete the new application, which requires training hours be included. (For example: If it is mandated that you were to obtain 20 training hours/CEUS over the two-year period (to recertify); then that is what must be submitted with the reapplication.) Just because your credential expired, you are still required to have obtained training/education.
