The Community Prevention Mobilizer plays a prominent role in the community as a representative of Compass Mark. This individual serves as a guide for grassroots and volunteer organizations throughout Lancaster County, actively facilitating the growth and expansion of community-based drug prevention activities at the local level. The Community Prevention Mobilizer also advises community collaborations in regard to best practices of drug and alcohol prevention. This is a largely external role that works closely with the Executive Director, Director of Operations and Certified Prevention Specialist to represent Compass Mark at state and local stakeholder meetings, conferences and other events.


• Provide guidance to community task forces, workgroups, and provider agencies on best practices in drug and alcohol prevention. This may include providing support, identifying community assessment needs and available resources, capacity-building and mobilization support, developing strategic prevention plans, implementation of evidence-based, culturally appropriate prevention activities, and evaluation/monitoring assistance.
• Promote the use of public health model prevention principles, identification of opportunities for appropriate collaborations within each area of addiction related services.
• Assist with the writing of concept papers, funding proposals, and other materials to help groups achieve sustainability and ensure continuation of prevention planning and implementation. Complete reports to state/local agencies as directed.
• Prepare and deliver presentations to groups on selected topics related to drug/alcohol prevention and intervention programs and practices. Participate in meetings and serve on committees as necessary to ensure strong collaboration with community groups.
• Participate in the development and delivery of Compass Mark prevention services in Lancaster County. This will include providing referral and advisory support to individuals, schools and community groups to connect them to necessary, approved resources.
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Operations to identify new program opportunities and implement solutions based upon stakeholder input.
• On behalf of community coalitions and task forces, help to establish meetings with potential funding agencies and key drug and alcohol prevention stakeholders.
• Develop baseline research on selected communities, identifying potential leaders and assisting them to recognize community needs and prioritize solutions, while continuing to monitor relevant local changes to the prevention landscape. Provide support to community groups regarding data collection and monitoring/reporting of outcomes to stakeholders.
• Provide a report of activities on a monthly basis, and be willing to provide support, input and assistance as requested for Compass Mark activities and campaigns.
• Support the mission of Compass Mark in the community and adhere to the agency’s core values.

Education & Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, social work, community organizing, public health, or other social/behavioral science; or at least two (2) years of significant experience in the field of substance abuse; specifically prevention and treatment services. Exceptional communication skills (written and oral) and demonstrated success mobilizing community resources towards specific goals. Ability to successfully prepare and deliver high-quality presentations to various audiences. Demonstrated leadership and vision for managing groups and projects. Ability to be resourceful in setting priorities and guiding successful investment in people and systems. Must have a working knowledge of software programs including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint).
Qualities: Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple projects; Must be flexible and capable of working in fast-moving yet at times ambiguous community context, while maintaining focus on clear solutions; Ability to work in a multicultural and diverse environment utilizing collaborative and team-oriented approaches; Commitment to high professional ethical standards.
Language & Reasoning: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including being able to create written reports and respond to questions. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions in written and oral form.
Travel: Employee must have willingness to travel (including periodic evening meetings) and access to reliable transportation. The employee must also possess a valid driver’s license and required vehicle insurance.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to move about the office to access files and equipment, and operate a telephone, mouse, and keyboard. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Other abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus, concentrate for extended periods of time, and talk and hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
